It was a philanthropic evening of sushi making for a cause with 20 of Bilzin Sumberg’s summer associates.

Longtime Common Threads team member Mimi Chacin led this special cooking class. Mimi has worked with Common Threads since the program’s inception in the Miami community nearly 10 years ago as a chef instructor. Her passion for cooking and teaching kids and families evolved from growing up abroad, where cooking from scratch was an everyday affair. She’s since dedicated her professional life to her passions working as a restaurant kitchen cook to starting her own business dedicated to teaching kids how to cook.

The event went off without a hitch, the room and mood was set and the ingredients were prepped and ready. Everyone enjoyed tasty Japanese themed appetizers and drinks, such as dumplings and spring rolls with sake, wine and infused water; all while being greeted by the Miami Board Chair, Geoff Tully. Once the time had come to roll out the sushi, the associates first observed a demonstration on how to make sushi rolls from Chacin, and then it was their turn to give it a try.

Everyone in the room demonstrated their creativity by making their individual sushi rolls, from California rolls to spicy tuna rolls and what we like to call a “My Roll” where you design sushi your way. Every delectable meal closes with dessert, and this evening was no different. Guests enjoyed a sweet mochi ice cream treat.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text admin_label=”quote” _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Rubik|300|||||||” text_text_color=”#6f6f6f” text_font_size=”20px” text_line_height=”36px” header_2_font=”|||on|||||” custom_padding=”15px|15px|15px|15px|false|false” border_width_left=”3px” border_color_left=”#36b37d”]“Working with adults was surprisingly similar to working with kids! I felt the same enthusiasm, engagement and curiosity from the sushi making class that I feel from my students at the schools throughout Miami-Dade County,” Chacin said. “Food and cooking will always be the glue that brings us together, no matter the age, nationality or diverse life experiences.”[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Rubik|300|||||||” text_text_color=”#6f6f6f” text_line_height=”33px” header_2_font=”|||on|||||”]Common Threads was chosen as Bilzin Sumberg’s partner for this event thanks to a recommendation from Jennifer Einersen, a trust & estates associate at the firm and a member on the Common Threads’ Miami board. [/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”quote” _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Rubik|300|||||||” text_text_color=”#6f6f6f” text_font_size=”20px” text_line_height=”36px” header_2_font=”|||on|||||” custom_padding=”15px|15px|15px|15px|false|false” border_width_left=”3px” border_color_left=”#36b37d”]”Bilzin Sumberg has a strong commitment to the South Florida community and is extremely supportive of the charitable endeavors of its employees,” Einersen said. “In speaking with other members of the Miami Board of Common Threads, it became clear that there was a good opportunity for Common Threads to become involved with the summer event.” [/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.5.7″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”Rubik|300|||||||” text_text_color=”#6f6f6f” text_line_height=”33px” header_2_font=”|||on|||||”]

Events like this are a staple for Common Threads in the Miami community and throughout the Common Threads organization nationwide. They allow the organization to fundraise and also cultivate new supporters and potential donors, all while increasing the organization’s brand awareness.
